George Richard Kruger, the son of George and Dorothy (Visker) Kruger, was born on May 28, 1936 in Slayton, MN. He was raised near Sibley and attended a one room school in Allendorf, graduated from Sibley High School. He attended Northwest Missouri State and majored in education and coaching. He went on to get his master’s degree from Truman State in Missouri. George’s first teaching job was in Mallard, IA, for 4 years. He came to Spencer in the Mid 70’s and was the elementary principal at Lincoln School and director of Special Education until his retirement in 1997.
He married Carolyn Nordstrom on May 23, 1981 in Clinton, IA. George attended Bethany Lutheran Church, where he was active in Men’s Bible Study and also was an usher. He was a member of Kiwanis and served 2 terms as a City Council Member. He was also a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity, and even worked with Jimmy Carter. George liked woodworking and loved to garden in his retirement.
He passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Accura Healthcare in Milford, IA at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margie Blochowitz.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn of Milford. IA; his brother, Elvin “Butch” Kruger and his wife, Barb of Fulda, MN; brother-in-law, Gilbert J. Blochowitz of Bigalow, MN; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
