Gene Laray Eby

Gene LaRay Eby, the son of Lewis and Vera (Rose) Eby, was born September 28, 1938 in Pender, NE.  His childhood years were spent in Rosalie, NE, where he received his education, graduating from Rosalie High School.  Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Marines for 5 years until his honorable discharge.

     Gene married Barbara Fiddelke on August 17, 1963 in Sutherland, IA.  After their marriage, they lived in Omaha and Norfolk, NE and then moved to Spencer, IA in 1974, where they owned and operated Eby’s Appliance  Center.  He later worked for Kraft Foods as a salesman.  Gene was also an avid hunter and fisherman.  He also was a Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and an Iowa State Cyclone basketball fan.  Gene also enjoyed coaching Marty & Darcy’s Little League baseball and softball teams when they were young.

     Gene passed away at the Ruthven Care Center in Ruthven, IA on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at the age of 84.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barb of Spencer; a son, Marty Eby and his wife, Lynn of Spencer;  a daughter, Darcy Eby of Sloan, IA; his grandchildren: Hunter, Brennon and Piper Eby and Keaton Kell; one sister, Sharon Mogenson of South Sioux City, NE; other relatives and friends.

     A special thank you to our “Earth Angels” at the Ruthven Care Center for lovingly taking care of Gene for the last 2 years.
