Esther Jalas

     Esther Jalas, the daughter of Jay and Agnes (Kaiser) Duncan was born March 2, 1927 near Hartley, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Sutherland, IA area, where she attended country school and graduated from Sutherland High School.

     Esther married Harry Jalas on January 23, 1947 in Dakota City, NE. She was proud to be a farm wife, driving tractors and doing chores while also raising their children and instilling a farm work ethic in them. Esther enjoyed gardening, flowers, especially African Violets, crocheting, baking, and always enjoyed baking bread. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Sutherland, IA.

     Esther passed away at the Pearl Valley Rehab & Nursing Home in Sutherland, IA on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the age of 92.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry in 2015; one brother, Robert Duncan; and one sister, Alice Maurer.

     Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dennis Jalas and wife, Char of Sutherland, IA, Linda Jungjohan of Terrell, TX, Mary McLatchie and husband, Bob of Mediapolis, IA, Jim Jalas and wife, Lori of Primghar, IA and Carol Sadler and husband, Rusty of Battle Creek, IA; 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Hyde of Spencer, IA; other relatives; and many friends.
