Eliner Wanda Kepler

Mrs. Don A. Kepler, Eliner W., died at the age of 92, April 10, 2006. Mrs. Kepler was born October 13, 1913 at Arlington, Illinois to Joseph Aloysus Morisky (Mrowinski) and Eleanor Barbara Kroll. Her father immigrated via Antwerp in Belgium and the Port of Philadelphia from the village of Tworkowo, Province of Posen, then part of the German Empire. Her mother immigrated with her parents as a small child from the town of Lobzenica, Province of Posen. Her parents moved to Northwest Iowa about 1913 and purchased a farm near Royal. Mrs. Kepler attended Catholic boarding school of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and graduated from Milford High School in Milford, Iowa. She attended Creighton University and the University of Northern Iowa. Eliner married Don A. Kepler on October 31, 1936 in Spencer, Iowa. She assisted her husband in operating several businesses: a bottle gas franchise, Kepler Maytag and Kepler Home Entertainment Center. Her talent as a bookkeeper and accountant was well recognized. In the 1940's she worked during tax season for the Cornwall Law Firm. Mrs. Kepler was active in many civil activities. She was secretary of the old Spencer Country Club in the early 1950's and hired Duke Ellington to play at one of the club's dances. She served as secretary, treasurer and eventually president of the Spencer Women's Bowling League and was elected to the Iowa State Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1997. Active in Catholic charities, Mrs. Kepler was decorated by the Vatican as a Lady Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepul chre and as a Lady of the Sovereign Order of Malta. She was the only Iowa woman to hold two major papal decorations. She was benefactor to several convents and orphanages and is survived by two nieces who are Catholic nuns in Order of Holy Names. She is survived by one son, Christopher A. Kepler, of Dallas, Texas plus many nieces and nephews, including Mr. Dick Long of Milford, Iowa. Her remains were cremated and she will be buried in the Milford Catholic Cemetery next to her husband and parents.
SERVICES
Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
