Eileen Alma Lanning, the daughter of Ray and Alma (Vanalstine) Davis, was born July 28, 1925 in Gilmore City, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Rutland, which is located north of Humboldt, IA. She received her education in Humboldt schools, graduating from Humboldt High School.
Eileen married Stanley Lanning on May 1, 1942. Stan served in the military in November of 1942 and served until his discharge in 1946. After their marriage, they lived in the communities of Pocahontas, Yetter and then Dakota City, IA. In 1961, they then moved to Spencer, IA, where they lived the majority of their lives. After raising her children, she worked as a seamstress for Aalfs Manufacturing from 1965 until her retirement in 1987. Eileen was also a member of Grace Methodist Church in Spencer for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed bus trips with the Heritage Club at Farmer’s Bank. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school activities.
She passed away at Accura Healthcare of Spirit Lake, Iowa on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the age of 95. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Stan in 2010; four brothers: Doyle, Lloyd, Allen and Rollin Davis.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ronald (Sherry) Lanning of Humboldt, IA, Donald (Jan) Lanning of Spring Valley, MN and Pamela (Mark) Reynolds of Swea City, IA; 6 grandchildren: Todd Lanning, Kari Fisher, Molly Johnson, Kim Johnson, Ben Reynolds, Cole Reynolds, Tim Lanning and Kari O’Bryne; great grandchildren: Treyton, Maddy, Reeyn, Hadlee, Kendall, Mesa, Sedonna, Kaylee, Ashlee, Adalyn, Silas & Malachi; one sister, Iona Benz of Dakota City, IA; 1 brother, Lawrence Davis of Gilmore City, IA; other relatives and friends.
