Edward Harold Morisch

August 2, 1945 — March 7, 2023

Spencer

Edward Harold Morisch was born in St. Edward Nebraska to Harold and Magdalene (Faust) Morisch on August 2, 1945. Edward died at age 77 on March 7th, 2023 at his home here in Spencer following his recent battle with cancer. As a child, Edward moved to Iowa. Edward was
one of eight children. Ed attended his early school years in Sioux Rapids and later attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Spencer High School.
Edward met the love of his life, Patricia Arends of Milford in 1961. The couple were united in marriage on August 1st, 1964, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. This marriage would go on to produce two children: Cheryl in 1965 and Michael in 1967. In his earlier years, Ed enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. Although he never allowed play to distract him from being a good provider and loving husband and parent.
Edward was a hard worker. After attending meat cutting school in Sioux City, he worked for several different grocery stores and then ran his own meat department in Ida Grove. The couple moved back to the Spencer area and Ed worked for Spencer Foods packing plant from 1966
until it closed in 1977. This gave him the opportunity to explore his other love, farming. Ed worked with Dale Jones and soon after began to farm on his own, eventually farming with his older brother Bob until Ed’s retirement from farming. This love of farming led him to continue to
find ways to play in the dirt, and helping his brother-in-law, Gary was something he enjoyed even as recently as this last harvest. Often Ed would joke he was semi-retired, because now he “just drove his semi”. Over the years Ed also worked for Eatons and Morton Building. Never one to sit still or to shy away from work to be done. Besides being with his family Ed liked spending time restoring and displaying his John Deere Two Cylinder tractors, antique equipment, vintage cars and other collectibles. In more recent years, daily coffee with a group of friends at the North Y brought him much laughter and joy.
Edward is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years Patricia (Arends) Morisch: two children: Cheryl Jackson, her two children: Sarah (Aaron) Riessen and Coleman Jackson all of Spencer. Mike (Jane) their children: Evan (Ashley Morrison) of Eagan, MN and Kelsey (BJ Sikora) of Spencer.
Edward is survived by siblings: Ella Mae Dirksen of Des Moines, Bob Morisch (Sue) of Spencer, Mary Orthmann (Gary) of Winterset, Larry Morisch (Linda) of Texas and Katie Weiskircher (Gary) of Milford. Edward is also survived by many adored nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Magdalene. Two older brothers: Gayle and Bill, and one brother-in-law, Don Dirksen.
