Edward Dennis Devereaux the son of William and Amy (Junkenmeier) Devereaux, was born on December 3, 1937, in Marathon, IA. He was raised on a farm Northeast of Laurens and received his early education by attending school in Laurens, graduating in 1956. After graduation, he worked on the farm and raised turkeys.
On January 24, 1959, he married Patricia Lilly in Laurens, IA. Following their marriage, they farmed near Laurens. In 1991, they quit farming and moved to Emmetsburg, IA, where they continued their education at Iowa Lakes Community College, graduating with an A.S. degree in Hotel/Motel Management. They later moved to Spencer and managed the Iron Horse Motel for 17 years.
Edward enjoyed gardening, bullhead fishing, tatting, which is a technique for handcrafting a particularly durable lace from a series of knots and loops. He made a lot of snowflakes doing this method and gave them to family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, he and Patricia played a lot of cribbage, and lately solitaire. He loved to cook for friends and family, but most of all he loved watching his beloved Hawkeyes anytime they were on T.V.
He passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother.
Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Lora Devereaux of Estherville, IA, Bruce Devereaux (Natalie) of Paullina, IA, Patrick (Lee) Devereaux of Papillion, NE and Scott Devereaux (Aimee) of Pomeroy, IA; his grandchildren: Steven Devereaux, Annette Sweisberger, Stephanie Devereaux, SarahRae Sisson, Allison Devereaux and Morgan Devereaux,; his great grandchildren: Marissa Sweisberger, Avery Sweisberger, Lily Walsh, Cali Devereaux, Renli Bridges, Jaxson Devereaux, Mila Devereaux and Kayleigh Sisson; his sister, Edna Richardson of Atlantic, IA; other relatives and friends.
