Dorothy Christina Steven

Dorothy Christina Steven, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Warner) Berry, was born on August 2, 1926, in Hampstead London, England. Her childhood years were spent in Tottenham London where she received her education. After her schooling, Dorothy’s first job was with Cable and Wireless. She then worked at Abney Park Cemetery because of her beautiful handwriting.

    Dorothy married Elmer “Steve” Steven on August 19, 1945, in London England. After Steve’s honorable discharge from the United States Air Force, he returned to northwest Iowa with Dorothy arriving in Spencer May 4, 1946. They made their home in Spencer. Elmer and Dorothy enjoyed 50 years they spent at the cottage on Lake Minnewashta with family, friends, and neighbors.

    Dorothy worked at the Spencer Hospital gift shop for over 30 years.  She enjoyed being a Cub Scout Leader, playing cards with the Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Lions Club. Dorothy and Steve loved to travel, especially attending the Air Force group reunions which were held in a different state every year and traveling to many memorable places with Farmers Bank. They both worked at the Clay County Fair with Steve driving the tractor and Dorothy working in the fair booth.

    Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother. She was very proud of having five generations.

    Left to cherish her memory are four sons: Geoffrey (Marilyn) Steven of Reinbeck, IA, Bryan (Janice) Steven of Spencer, IA, Keith Steven of Mason City, IA, and Kevin Steven of Spencer, IA; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
