Doretta Magdalena Unrau

     Doretta Magdalena Unrau, the daughter of William and Dora Appeldorn Holck, was born April 1, 1921 in Pipestone, MN.  The family moved to Iowa in 1932.  Doretta received her early education and graduated from Marcus High School in 1939.

     Doretta marred Julius Unrau on June 15, 1943 in Germantown, Iowa.  Following their marriage, they farmed near Royal and Spencer where they lived until moving into Spencer in 1976.  Doretta taught country school for 4 years.  She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer and was very active in all the  churches she has attended throughout her life, including singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and serving on the Women’s Guild.  She was also a volunteer for the Spencer Hospital Auxiliary.  They enjoyed wintering in Mesa, AZ from 1986 to 1993.

     Doretta passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer on January 6, 2021 at the age of 99.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julius on April 21, 1993; one brother, Willis Holck and sister, Mary June Collette.

     She is survived by her brother, Eldred Holck; sister-in-law, Sylvia Unrau; many nieces and nephews and friends.
