Donald George Osterson, of Greenville, IA, passed away at the age of 84 on August 23rd, 2026 in his home. Born in Ruthven, IA, on February 2nd of 1942 to Harvey and Ione (Peters) Osterson, was a beloved member of his family and community.
Donald grew up in the Hartley and Spencer area, spending time with friends in both locations. Shortly after graduating high school, Donald became a member of the United States Navy, enlisting on the 26th of October, 1959 where he was originally stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. He continued to serve until he was released from active duty on May 14th, 1963. According to Donald, service in the Navy was one of his greatest accomplishments. The other was marrying his wife, Betty (Walstrom) Osterson on May 21st, 1965 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The two eventually settled in Greenville, IA and had remained there since the 1960's. Once out of the Navy, Donald continued his days as a truck driver, an occupation he shared with his wife for over 20 years. When he wasn’t trucking across the country, he filled his days with many beloved hobbies, such as fishing and camping.
Donald is now reunited with his beloved wife who proceeded his death in 2015, as well as his parents, Harvey and Ione (Peters) Osterson, and his daughter Jody Rinken of Spencer.
He is survived by his daughter, DeAnne Martin of Fort Myers, Florida, two step-sons, Terry Knutson and Danny Knutson of Greenville, Iowa, several in-laws, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donald’s memory will carry on in the family and friends who knew and loved him in life.
