This obituary recounts the life of Don W. Harleman, as seen through his children’s eyes. Growing up, Don possessed limitless abilities, teaching us how to fish and place IV lines with surgical precision. He could tell wild stories with unique voices. Despite his gentle demeanor, he could suddenly become superhuman to us. He instilled respect in us while also displaying otherworldly sarcasm. Don dedicated his life to his community, serving as a firefighter/paramedic, death investigator, and state paramedic certifying official. He participated in medical/rescue training simulations and served as an emergency responder at the fair. A cherished memory Anthony has is when he trained on as a support role for injured service members and their families, ensuring their well-being during wartime. Though he never had to use these skills with anthony, knowing he wanted to care for him made the world to me. Above all, he was our unsung hero, always there for us, even when we didn’t want him, and never ceasing to love us. A few memories I have with Dad are our campfire eggs! I was always so worried the plastic would melt onto my eggs in the pan over the fire! I will never forget the day he met his grandson Mateo for the first time, talk about a proud grandpa! Or the day I called him and told him I was going to be delivering Luka at 27 1/2 weeks to save both of us, the sound in his voice he was so scared but knew we would be okay! But my favorite memory of all is that my Dad gave my hand away to my wonderful husband Hector! From 10 years ago to the last week of Dad’s life, Hector has always been his sidekick! From lawn care to helping around the house to just being a great friend! We miss you pulling up at the campground during the summers saying, “Is the food ready or you got a beer for me!” We love you, Dad.
