Donald Freeburg

We are sad to announce the passing of Donald (Don) David Freeburg of Mesa, AZ. He passed at age 78 on June 14, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Donald Freeburg was born in Spencer Iowa on September 19, 1944, to Bernard and Bernice Freeburg. Donald was a caring and loving husband to Georgia “Geordy” Freeburg for 50 years. He went onto have two children: Dominic and Hilary.

Don and Geordy raised their children in Spencer and he resided there for 70 years.  He was proud to continue his father’s concrete construction business, Freeburg Construction, and worked on many homes in Spencer and the Lakes area. In 2008, he retired and was able to focus on what he loved the most, family. He was an amazing father, brother, uncle, and grandfather.  He loved spending time with his granddaughters as well as friends and extended family members. Aside from his love of his family, he enjoyed watching the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, various sports and being outdoors.

Donald was proceeded in death by his mother, father, sister JoAnne (Neil) Ball, brother Saint (Gail) Freeburg. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Geordy; two children, Hilary (Jeremy) Freeburg-Hesse of Coppell, TX, Dominic (Piya) Freeburg of Mesa, AZ; his two grandchildren (Addison and Tatum Hesse); sisters Janice (John) Cannon, Connie (Roger) Groff, brothers Ronald and Ken “Butch”, other relatives; and many friends.
