On March 1, 2021, Denny Winterboer, beloved son, brother, husband, and father passed away at the age of 70. Denny was born on Nov. 5, 1950 in Spencer, IA to Carl and Evelyn Winterboer. He attended Iowa State University and returned to start farming a newly acquired farm near Fostoria, IA. On July 16th, 1980, Denny proposed to his “hired hand” while they were walking a field of beans. Ten days later, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Thompson in Sioux Falls, SD. Denny and Becky were blessed to raise 4 children, Kyle, Patrick, Julia, and Alex.
When Denny wasn’t dominating family members in a hand of cards, he might be in Japan, or Brazil pursuing novel soybean ventures. Other times you could find him in the field sitting long periods between rows of corn as he often claimed to be “just looking” as he counted worms and tested the soil. Denny had an unending curiosity about soil health and was a progressive farmer who was leader in minimum till practices. He also had a passion for sharing his knowledge and guiding young farmers.
He is survived by his mother, wife, 4 children, sisters: Sandra Golden & Beverly Sorem, brother-in-law Dale Sorem, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father.
