     Dennis Ray Powers, the son of F. Melverne and Nora Beatrice (Stanley) Powers, was born February 12, 1949, in Primghar, Iowa, the last of four children.  He began his education at Gaza Consolidated School, then Omega #9, and graduated from Hartley High School in 1967.  He joined the U.S. Navy and while based in Puerto Rico, he met the love of his life, Daina Marrero Miranda.  The were married July 8, 1972, in Puerto Rico.  After his discharge, Dennis studied small engine repair at Iowa Lakes in Estherville.      Dennis and Daina adopted two children.

     Dennis drove semi for Group 21, then worked at Witco and then at Eaton’s where he retired in 2009. After retirement, Dennis enjoyed computers, gardening, tinkering, especially golfing and was a Dinner Date volunteer.  He loved spending time with his wife and his children.  He was an active member of the Peterson United Methodist Church, where he helped with technology and was the board chair for many years.  He served as treasurer of the Peterson American Legion and also was a member of the board at the Senior Center.

     Dennis passed away at his home on June 5, 2023 at the age of 74 years, 3 months, 23 days.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Melverne and Bea Powers.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years; their children: Jan and Leilani; sister, Susan (Charles) Missman; two brothers: Dr. Richard (Marlene) Powers and Frank Powers; sister-in-law, Edna; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
