Delores Hazel Barringer

Delores Hazel Barringer, the daughter of John and Eda (Rasmussen) Clemenson was born August 9, 1928 in Graettinger, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Graettinger area, where she attended school and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1946. She continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College, then University of Northern Iowa, and University of Colorado.

Delores married Robert Barringer on March 17, 1951 at the Graettinger Lutheran Church. She taught school in Manilla, IA for one year and then Milford, IA for 3 years. Bob and Delores started their married life at Iowa State. They lived in Terrill, IA for 3 years, farmed outside Graettinger for many years and then returned to Iowa State where Bob earned a PhD in animal nutrition. After time in Sioux Falls, SD, and Salina, KS, they then moved to Spencer, IA in 1973. Delores enjoyed working in the church library, reading, playing bridge and especially with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, United Methodist Women, Bible Study, and Spencer Federated Women’s Club.

Delores passed peacefully away on Saturday, January 3, 2025 at St. Luke’s Nursing Home at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters, Elaine Richardson, Lenore Jensen, Marlys Daniels, Judy Garrelts, and Kathy Reinders, and one grandson, Cameron Barringer.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert Barringer of Spencer, IA; 4 children, Mary Anne (Dr. Kelly) Carroll of Englewood, FL, Dr. Bruce (Janet) Barringer of Stillwater, OK, Barbara Juhasz of Wichita, KS, and Brian (Melissa) Barringer of Dayton, MN; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
