David Frederick Reed, the son of Ivan “Lou” & Mary Lou ( Johnson) Reed, was born January 1, 1966 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer, where he received his education, graduating from Spencer High School in 1984. He later continued his education, graduating from Morningside College in 1988. David attended Thunderbird International School of Business in Glendale, AZ, (suburb of Phoenix) where he received his Masters Degree in Business.
David was active with the band, choir and theatre at Spencer High School and during his senior year, he was selected to play trombone in the All State Band. He attended Morningside College, where he sang in the choir and played trombone in the band. David was active in the Cub and Boy Scouts and was awarded Eagle Scout at age 15 from Boy Scout Troop 123 in Spencer. While at Thunderbird, he attended summer school which included living with a Spanish speaking family in Mexico.
David moved to Chicago, where he worked for Motorola for 20 years, as a buyer of parts. While living there, he became a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. David developed many close friends living in the Chicago area while attending Christ Church of Oakbrook and College Church of Wheaton.
He loved to travel. Some of the places he visited while being a buyer was the United States, Mexico, China, Vietnam, Japan, Italy and England. He moved to West Bend, WI, for 10 years. His main job was working for John Deere as a buyer, this was the same type of job as he had with Motorola, which included travel to foreign countries.
He belonged to toastmasters for many years. He organized a brand new club within the John Deere plant where he worked. He held a variety of offices on the local, regional and state levels. David played trombone in River City Irregulars, which is a band of about 50 musicians. The group is based in West Bend and they rehearse and perform year round. David loved mission trips and every year for many years he went to Foreign Countries. He used his own money and his vacation time. He traveled with a small group to an organized established mission. He’s been to Russia 7 times, Ukraine 3 times, Czech Republic 3 times, Brazil and many others.
David was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend, WI. He recently attended St. Andrews Lutheran Church playing in the Brass Group.
He passed away at his home on Monday, November 15, 2021, in West Bend, WI, at the age of 55.
Left to cherish his memory are his parents: Ivan “Lou” and Mary Lou Reed of Spencer; two sisters: Anne Marie Reed and Karen Reed of Cedar Falls, IA; other relatives and friends.
