Spencer

Dave Duane Nissen, the son of Harold C. and Gladys J. Johnson Nissen, was born November 16, 1955, in Spencer, Iowa.  Dave graduated from the Spencer High School in 1974.  He furthered his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Dave worked as a meat cutter for 43 years at The Butcher Shop, Super Valu, Fareway, Greenville Locker, Laurens Locker and trimmed and cut all the fine meat products at Weasy’s Lounge and Grill.
Dave played fast pitch softball with the Spencer Budweiser team in the 1970’s and 1980’s, making a team trip to Stockton California for the National Softball Tournament in 1979.
He loved watching sports, especially the Braves, Raiders, Tiger Woods and the Iowa State Cyclones.  One of his favorite past times was “Monday Funday” at Weasy’s catching up with his friends.  He especially loved spending time with his family and hosting a family picnic at his home the first Sunday in August for the past 20 years.  Dave was very particular about his yard, he loved having it groomed to perfection – never a weed or leaf to be seen!
Dave passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 63.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Denny (Molly), Greg and Ronald Nissen; and nephew, Brett Nissen.
He is survived by his sisters: Delores Koehlmoos of Storm lake, Dorie (Virgil) Hatfield of Lakefield, MN; brother, Steve (Pat) Nissen of Spencer; sisters-in-law: Robbin Nissen of Marathon and Vicki Nissen of Arizona; many other relatives and friends.
