Daniel Jay Merten

     Daniel Jay Merten, the son of Edward Joseph and Donna Jean (Milleman) Merten was born August 13, 1954, in Estherville, Iowa.  He was raised and attended Spencer Community Schools, graduating in 1973.

   On August 3, 1974, Daniel was united in marriage to Deb Roberts, his childhood sweetheart at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. He centered his life around farming. He was a man that worked hard but played hard too. He was the first person to help a friend in need.  He enjoyed bowling,  golfing, snowmobiling, playing cards, relaxing in his pool, taking tickets at the fair, harvest time, bonfires, spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and attending their activities.

   Daniel passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at his home, at the age of 65.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Donald Merten.

   Left to cherish his memory are his wife Deb of Spencer, IA; 3 children,  Dallas (Melissa) Merten of Fostoria, IA, Dangie (Jason) of Bennington, NE, and John (Amy) Noehren of Gilbert, AZ; 4 grandchildren,  Maxwell and Murphy Merten ,and Samantha and Jack Jansen; one brother, David Merten of Royal, IA; two sisters, Cindy Meyerdirk of Spirit Lake, IA; and Melinda Carlson of Sioux City, IA; other relatives; and many friends.

     The family would like to give a special thank you to Kindred Hospice, especially to his special gals, Stacie and Emily.
