Be Joyful in Hope, Patient in Affliction and Faithful in Prayer… Romans 12:12

Charin Marie Brockshus, age 80 of Spencer, Iowa passed away on Thursday May 9, 2019, at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa.  Charin Marie Woodrich was born on December 8, 1938, in West Burlington, Iowa, to parents Reverend Glen Woodrich and Martha (Zink) Woodrich.  Charin grew up in Tama, Iowa, later moving to Melvin, Iowa, where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Melvin Community School in 1956.

On August 24, 1958, she was married, in a wedding officiated by her father, to Delmar (Del) Brockshus at the American Lutheran Church in Melvin, Iowa.  This union was blessed with sons: Todd Dale and Ross Robert and daughter, Jill Marie.  Early married years were spent on a farm near May City, Iowa, with later moves to Round Lake, Minnesota, Ames, Iowa, and Shenandoah, Iowa, before settling in Spencer, Iowa in 1966.  While Charin never was awarded a college degree, she certainly earned one by assisting Del through Iowa State University.  Charin was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, but she was also a partner and founder of Del’s Garden Center where she worked to create beauty and bounty for folks in Northwest Iowa.  Her joy was her family… she took time to spend one full day a week with her children and grandchildren.  From the time they were babies though school age, she enjoyed caring for, playing with and thoroughly spoiling her grandchildren.  She took pride in being the fastest and toughest grandma in the world and her ‘Petie the Possom’ stories are legendary.  Her garden was her passion!  Planting, tending, harvesting and preserving the vegetables gave her great satisfaction… only cooking and serving those vegetables to others would give her more joy.  She was an excellent cook and loved baking bread weekly.

Our family is grateful that our wife, mother and grandmother is resting with Jesus.  We delight in the thought that she can remember and move about with ease after many years of affliction.  We rest in the promise that Charin is filled with inexpressible and glorious joy, receiving the end result of her faith.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 60 years, Del Brockshus of Spencer; Todd (Barbara) of Spencer, Ross (Beth) of Spencer and daughter, Jill (Mark) of Sioux Center, Iowa.  Charin’s grandchildren of Todd and Barb Brockshus are David and wife, Jenna, Aaron and fiancée Ellecia, Hannah, and Isaac Robert; Charin’s grandchildren of Ross and Beth are Isaac Louis, Samuel and wife, Megan; Chloe and husband, Cole Deike.  Charin’s grandchildren of Jill and Mark Hulshof are Kacey, Ty and Reid Hulshof; great-grandchildren are Russell Deike and Lincoln Brockshus.

Charin was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Martha Woodrich; her aunt and step-mother, Marie Woodrich, one brother, George Woodrich; and close aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 15th at 11:00 AM with visitation at Faith Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 14th 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Internment with the family will be prior to visitation Tuesday, May 14th at Harrison Township Cemetery at May City, Iowa.
