Brian Trent Goettsch, the youngest son of Donald Harvey and Sandra Sue (Sauter) Goettsch, was born on May 26, 1968 in Cherokee, Iowa. He was raised on their family farm near Sutherland, where he attended and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1987.
Sports were always a passion of Brian’s. He played football and threw shot put and discus during his high school days. Later, he raced Hobby Stocks at the track in Alta. Brian’s love for sports carried with him throughout his life. He was also an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman.
Brian worked a variety of jobs throughout his life. He worked at Simonson Iron Works in Sioux Rapids, Mills Construction in Sutherland, Paullina Lumber in Paullina, and most recently, Christensen Family Farms in Minnesota. His years at home were also spent farming with his parents.
Brian married Sue Ann Myers on May 26, 1990. They later divorced, but in October, 1993, Bryan Donald was born. Brian carried on his passion for sports by coaching his son’s youth t-ball and Little League teams, as well as the area youth wrestling team.
Brian passed away in the early morning hours on Monday, June 29th. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald, earlier this year; his grandparents, Harvey (Margaret) Goettsch, Lester (Mabel) Sauter, Ken (Isabelle) Elsbury; an uncle, Freddie Sauter; and one aunt and her husband, Beth (Harlen) Lingel.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Bryan of Aurora, South Dakota; his mother, Sandra of Sutherland; his brother, Lyle (Gloria) Goettsch, and his sister, Teresa Mackey, all of Peterson; three nieces: Trisha, Julie, and Kim; and one nephew, Darren; alongside other relatives and friends.
