Ardis Mae Taylor

September 5, 1937 — December 10, 2021

Spencer

Ardis Mae Taylor, the daughter of Chris and Bertha Petersen, was born September 5, 1937 on a farm near Underwood, Iowa.  Her childhood was spent in Underwood and the surrounding area, and she graduated from Underwood High School in 1955.  She attended Dana College in Blair, NE.

Ardis worked for Bell Telephone in Council Bluffs, but left that position to be a Civilian Secretary to a colonel at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha.  It was there she met the love of her life, James Earl Taylor.

She and Jim were married September 1, 1963 and lived in the Omaha and Council Bluffs area.  They spent a few months at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, but returned to Council Bluffs, before moving to Spencer in 1977.  Ardis worked for Drs. Rasdal and Martin at the Eye Care Centre for several years.  In 1987, Jim was transferred to Sioux Falls, SD, and they lived there until Jim’s retirement in 1997 and moved back to Spencer.  She was a longtime member of Hope Reformed Church.

Ardis passed away on December 10, 2021 at Spencer Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Richard.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Jim of 58 years, her son Steve (Lori) Taylor of Spencer, her daughter Laura (Jim Turner) of Prescott, AZ; her three grandchildren Elizabeth (Scott) Thompson of Forest City, IA, Maren Taylor of Morgantown, WV and Sage Taylor of Flagstaff, AZ; her sister, Betty Kruse of Spencer, her brother Calvin (Karen) Petersen of Council Bluffs, IA; many other relatives and friends.
