Alvin Virgil Norgaard, the son of Hans and Marie (Bottker) Norgaard, was born October 11, 1928, near Lattimer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on farms between Sioux Rapids, Royal and Spencer, Iowa, where he received his early education at Lincoln Township and later graduated from Spencer High School. He enlisted in the National Guard for one year in 1948 in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Alvin married Donna Underwood on July 2, 1950, at the First Congregational Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, Alvin and Donna moved to a farm southeast of Spencer where they raised six children and farmed for many years. Later they built a new home in Country Villa Mobile Home Park. In 1998, they built a new home in the south end of Spencer. They became “snowbirds” in Texas, then Phoenix and later in Yuma, Arizona. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Alvin enjoyed fishing, traveling and visiting family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and attending the kids events. Donna passed away in 2009.
He married Gladylou Barnes on May 1, 2010, in Claremont, California. After their marriage, they lived in Spencer.
Alvin passed away at his home in Marathon, IA, on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his 2nd wife, Gladylou; son, Todd; grandson, Jimmy Lee Norgaard, granddaughter, Dixie Rae Norgaard; infant brother, Dale Norgaard; brother and his wife, Earl and Phyllis Norgaard; sister and her husband, Fern and Harold Sembach
He is survived by his children: Charles (Tim) and Susie Norgaard of Spencer, IA, Tom and Sharon Norgaard of Spencer, IA, Christy Craig of Spencer, IA, Terry and Antionette Norgaard of Laurens, IA, and Candice Norgaard of Marathon, IA; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will take place Monday, October 11, starting at 5:00 P.M., with family present from 5-7:00 P.M. at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
