Alta Mae Claus, the daughter of John and Ella (Berger) Hollander was born on May 17, 1932, on a farm near Elkton, SD. As a young child she moved to Iowa and attended rural grade school west of Boyden, IA. She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1950. She attended Wartburg College where she obtained her teaching certificate and then taught six years in Ocheyedan and Humbolt, IA. In 1971, she became an Avon Representative and also served several years as an Assistant District Manager. She retired in 2017 after 45 years with Avon.

She married Donald Claus on June 24, 1956, in Hull, IA. Following their marriage, they moved to Spencer in 1957. She was baptized and confirmed and was a member of First English Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and served on the Board of Education. She also served on the Alter Guild and was a member of TTTFC.

Alta enjoyed her flowers and sewing for her children and grandchildren when they were young. Family get togethers were always special. Don and Alta enjoyed traveling to many states, Europe and a Caribbean Cruise.

She passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her son, David and her three brothers: Ernest, Rudolf and John R. Hollander.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Gregory Claus and his wife, Dr. Maria of Gainesville , FL and Daniel Claus and his wife, Ange of Dickens, IA; her daughter, Lisa Claus of Sioux Falls, SD; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Claus of Spencer, IA; her grandchildren: Samuel Claus ( Jillna ) of Solon, IA, Andrew Claus of Spencer, IA, Phillip Claus (Jessica) of Ruthven, IA, Elizabeth Claus of Spencer, IA, Ashley Claus of Burnsville, MN, Amber Claus of Grimes, IA, and Sophia Claus of Gainesville, FL; her great grandchildren: Cora Claus and Wyatt Claus; her sister, Elaine Brandhorst of Hudson, IA; other relatives and many friends.

SERVICES

Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 8, 2021 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer..
