Alfred Laverne Ness

     Alfred Lavern Ness was born March 19, 1927, in Bryant, SD to Lawrence and Ethyl Ness.

     He married Ruth Sweet on May 5, 1951.  They made their home in Spencer, Iowa where they lived in the same home until 2019, when they moved to St Luke Lutheran Home.  Alfred worked for Spencer Packing Company for many years, drove semi-truck, and for many years worked security at the Clay County Fair.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters; 1 brother; his wife Ruth and 4 sons: Gary, Larry, Roger and Curtis.

     Alfred passed peacefully on September 1, 2023 at St Luke Lutheran Home at the age of 96.  He loved to walk miles inside the nursing home, and everyone knew him and called him by name.  He was always so grateful for anything anyone did for him. And he never failed to thank them.

     Left to cherish his memory is his sister Dorothy Weiser (Larry) of Yankton, SD; his daughter, Kathryn Mackie (Larry) of Phoenix, AZ; his son, Melvin Brown of Burnsville, MN; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
