Albert “Al” Julius Johnson, the son of Albert and Marcella (Slama) Johnson was born May 13, 1951 in Winnebago, MN. His childhood years were spent in the Lakota, IA area, where he attended school and graduated from Lakota High School.
Al started working at the local cement and quarry plant in Lakota right after school. He then went to work for Giese Cement in Britt, IA, before they were bought out by Martin Marrietta Concrete in Mason City, IA. Al worked there until an accident forced him to retire. He met Debra Reiter in 2007 and they made their home on an acreage near Peterson, IA, where they quickly made friends.
Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening, traveling, bee keeping, dressing up as Santa Claus and visiting schools, nursing homes and other places, and especially spending time with family and friends. He was a competitive axe thrower and a member of the fire department and ambulance crew. He will be remembered as a jokester.
Al left to be with the Big Guy in the sky from his home on Friday, May 23, 2025 at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Marcella Johnson: a , a sister, Mary Johnson, his aunt and uncle, Lou and Ray Johnsonand granddaughter, Natasha Dawn
Left to cherish his memory are his significant other, Debra Reiter of Peterson, IA; her children, Rick (Maggie) and Will (Tiffany); his 3 daughters, Laurie Johnson and special friend, (Terry) ; Christine Gerdes (Bruce); Theresa Johnson, all from Iowa; 2 brothers, Bob Johnson (Deb), of Britt ,Iowa and Jim Rose of Dayton, Nevada; nephew, Travis Johnson; niece, Jennifer Braun; other relatives and many friends. Many other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great Grandchildren.
