Rodney Allen Petersen, the son of Marvin and Grace (Prather) Petersen,  was born on December 14, 1947 in Spencer, IA. He received his early  education in Spencer until his family moved to Pasadena, CA where he finished school and graduated from John Muir High School. He then entered into the military on December 4, 1967, serving in the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War. He was stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk where he worked on airplane engines. He was honorably discharged December 3, 1973. Upon completing his Naval duties he returned to Spencer.

On June 8, 1974, he married Pamela Johnson in Spencer, IA.  They had two children Jasen and Rhonda.  During their marriage, he was a truck driver for H.F. Then in 1983, he and Pamela owned and operated a bar called The Pit Stop.

They sold it around 1995. Rodney also worked for Eaton's Corp. and Cycle Country before moving to Sioux Falls. There he worked for a big car auctioneer, where he detailed cars. In 2010, he moved back to Spencer.

He enjoyed NASCAR with Dale Earnhardt as his favorite driver. He also enjoyed going to the races with his son, Jasen in Jackson, MN and Knoxville.  He liked to read, but most of all, he loved attending his grandkids sporting events and spending time with his family.

Rod passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jasen.
