G. Roger Arndt of Spencer, IA passed away at the age of 74 on November 9, 2019 in Spencer.  Roger was born in Sioux City, IA on January 6, 1945, the only son of Vanita M. and Gerald F. Arndt.

After spending his early years in Sioux City, the family moved to Wynot, NE where he graduated from high school.  While in high school he played guitar for a local band, The Corvettes.  It was during one of The Corvettes’ performances where he met his future wife, Karen K. Dreesen.  They were married on February 29, 1964.  After residing in Omaha, NE for a short time they moved to Spencer, IA where they raised their two sons, Jerry and Mark.

Roger called Spencer home for the last 55 years of his life.  He had a long and successful career as a route salesman before retiring from Old Dutch in 2007.  Roger had many interests including playing the guitar and 50s music; coaching his sons; collecting baseball cards (Reggie Jackson and Mark McGwire were his favorites); cheering on the Cyclones; taking on home handyman projects; and manicuring his lawn.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen; his two sons, Jerry (Renee) of Baton Rouge, LA and Mark (Jean) of Dickens, IA; three grandchildren, Andrew (Marcella) of New York, NY, Alex of Dickens, IA, and Caitlin of Dickens, IA; and one great grandchild, Brayson.

“Jerry and Mark: I remember your family well, and you two boys growing up. I lived across the street from you on East 13th. Our sympathy to you. Once in a while we would see your dad at the Pizza Ranch and visit with him. He was a great guy and a great neighbor. Know you will miss him, but remember the good times. Thinking of you and prayers for your future. Karen Jordan Wee & Lynn”
