Sharon Kay Clausen, the daughter of William and Alava Dorsey, was born November 29, 1939, in Estherville, IA.  Sharon received her teaching degree at Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA; she then received her Master’s and graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA.  Sharon taught 2nd grade in Kingsley, and when Sharon and Larry moved to Spencer, Sharon started substitute teaching for many years.
On June 17, 1961, Sharon was united in marriage to Larry Dean Clausen in Swea City, IA.  Following their marriage, they lived in Marshalltown until moving to Spencer where they have resided.  To this union, three children were born: Greg, Gary and Gayle.
Sharon was a member of First Baptist Church in Spencer and enjoyed attending and helping with the Social Committee and various other committees.  She loved to sell Avon as she got the chance to sit down with people and just talk.  She liked to bowl, garden, and loved to read books.  Sharon especially loved spending time with her three granddaughters which were her world.  Sharon was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first great-grandchild.
Sharon passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at the age of 78.  She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her mother and father-in-law.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; two sons: Greg (Danielle) and Gary; her daughter, Gayle (Chad); three granddaughters: Haley (Ryan), Holly and Mandi; other relatives and friends.

“I was going through the Spencer Funeral obits and just happened to run upon Sharon's passing. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. I am the youngest daughter of Curt and Connie Paulsen and we lived at 602 SW St. in the neighborhood. I remember you living by the Greens. I remember once going to your house for something, maybe it was for Avon, and being greeted by Sharon and what a warm and loving feeling I got from her even at a very young age. So I wanted to take the time out to say to all of you that have lost a mother and grandmother, after losing my own mother a few years back,, yes, she will greatly missed and the pain of her will continue but time does heal and then the wonderful memories of her will be left and your tears will be replaced with smiles. Blessings to your family!”
