Colleen Ann Speed, the daughter of Phillip and Helen Sweeney Fogarty, was born December 26, 1936 in Lake Park, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in West Bend and Lake Park, Iowa, where she received her early education. Her family later moved to Gillett Grove, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. After high school, she began work at the Spencer Hospital and continued working there for many years, 26 years in Home Health.

Colleen married Robert Speed on May 4, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed near Webb, Iowa for many years. Colleen was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, where she was a President of the Women’s Guild for many years. She was also very active in the Webb Community, serving as a 1st responder for the Webb Fire Dept, was involved in community drives, won the 4-H volunteer award, was president of the Library Board, the Centennial Committee, Red Hat Club and Federated Women’s Club. Colleen also enjoyed the Clay County Fair and was Superintendent of the Dog Show for 35 years and was clerk for the Hog Show for 4-H for many years as well as many other activities too numerous to mention. Colleen truly lived her life through her church, community and family.

Colleen passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the age of 71. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Helen Fogarty; a granddaughter, Abbey Kacmarynski; a grandson, Michael Kacmarynski; two brothers: Tim and Joe Fogarty; a sister, Phyllis Oviatt and two brother-in laws: Jim Finneman & Dennis Ewoldt.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert of Webb; her children: Marcia Sikora of Spencer, IA, Richard and his wife, Cindy Speed of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Mary and her husband, Dennis Kacmarynski of Spencer, IA and Dan and Cindy Speed of Wilton, IA; her grandchildren: Tim & Jenna Sikora, Jon, Alex & Katie Speed, Kyle, Tyler and Brody Kacmarynski, Kelsey, Cayla, Riley, Hallie, Brynna and Josh Speed; a soon expected great grandchild; 8 brothers and sisters; a sister-in-law; countless family and many, many friends.

Bob and family: I was devastated to hear of your loss! I used to love teasing Colleen, when I was a kid, while baling hay, shelling corn, or just visiting. May God help you through these hard days. I stopped in to see her two years ago, while visiting Webb, she always had a good hug for me. Marcia, I got to see you after grown, but Dick, Mary, Dan, I never had the privilege to meet you. Again Bless you all, take care of your Dad! A old neighbor friend.

Bob and family, I was so sorry to hear that Colleen lost her battle with cancer. She was such a wonderful person that her absence will be felt by many. I loved working with her and enjoyed her vibrant personality and "can do" attitude. I know that you will miss her sorely as will our church and all of her many friends. She was a woman who made a difference in others and I am sure that you are proud of all that she was and all that she did. My sincere sympathies to all of you.

Denny and I have no words of how we feel at the loss of Colleen. She is one in a million and can only say, the memories she leaves behind will always fill our hearts with nothing but love and respect for this wonderful and kind woman. We are so sorry for your loss and hope that time and your families love for each other help you all to heal. I know Colleen's life was all about her family, she never missed a moment to not watch you kids and grandkids at ballgames, be at family gatherings and just be with you all. Such a loss for the Webb Community and all who loved her.

Dear Colleen's Family,
Please accept my sincere sympathy on the passing of Colleen. I had the privilege of getting to know her briefly, while she was a patient at Spencer Hospital. She was a lady of grace and dignity. Though her health was failing, she was considerate of all those around her. God bless her.
I am sure she will be missed deeply.

My heart is sad since hearing the news. I have such wonderful memories growing up of all the visit at your house and our house. Colleen always had an infectious laugh. She was a great neighbor and "second mom". She will be missed greatly,
